WomenPreneurs fighting COVID-19
Women from Radaur village in Haryana have joined hands to fight coronavirus. Approximately, 60 women SHG members from six Village Organization actively involved themselves in making masks. This was done to extend support to the District Administration in containing Coronavirus. Not only are these women creating masks, they are also devoting their time in disseminating information and generating awareness regarding COVID – 19. Involving themselves in supplying essential commodities, they are participating in cooking meals for the vulnerable sections.
Beginning early March, these women SHG members were assigned the responsibility of creating awareness on COVID-19 at the community level. Within four days, they created pamphlets on how to safeguard against the virus and distributed them at the block and district level. The message of ‘Stay Home, Stay Safe’ by the Government was also spread along with this. Humongous efforts were made by these women to help the people understand how staying at home and social distancing would help break the chain of transmission.
Taking into account the public demand for masks, the SHG members have made 17550 Masks. These masks were later sold to government institutions, private bodies, hospitals, etc at very reasonable costs and in some cases free of cost. The SHG members are willing to continue making masks for the people.
Along with making masks, these women took on the additional responsibility of supplying groceries and vegetables during the lockdown period. Several SHGs have set up dry ration and vegetable shops across the Block and District with the help of the HSRLM and LDF Block and District teams. Many members from the SHGs have voluntarily contributed a part of their group savings to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.
